Henrik Larsson will retire next month at the end of the Swedish domestic season.
The former Celtic, Manchester United and Barcelona forward, 38, announced his international retirement last week after Sweden failed to qualify for next year's World Cup finals.
Helsingborg, his club, had hoped that Larsson would continue to play club football for another season, but he said: "I know now that I am 100 percent sure about my decision to stop."
“I will think over what I will do next. Most of all I need some time to adjust to life after football,” he said.
Larsson won league titles in England, Scotland and Spain and the Champions League with Barcelona in 2006. He also played over 100 times for Sweden including appearances in three World Cups.
