Voting in Iraq

Despite the impressive turnout figures at the Iraqi elections, the report on "stolen votes" belittles its significance

Sir, The willingness of the Iraqi people to vote cannot be denied (letter, Mar 12). However, despite the impressive turnout figures your report (Mar 12) on “stolen votes” belittles its significance.

I do not question the desire of the Iraqi people for freedom and democracy; I do, however, question the motivation of those in positions of power and responsibility, where it seems corruption is still holding democracy back.
